Normal or Surprised?: Peacemaking with Refugees

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

We are walking along the beach of Malaga. Surprisingly it’s only a 20-minute walk from the city center. It looks like a normal beach, we stopped for a drink, and then remembered that it is the same beach that many refugees arrive at when coming into the area. Just two days ago a boat of refugees from Tunisia died at sea. Again, surprisingly, life is normal, the kids play and the women sunbathe.

We are also blocks away from a small independent center where the Muslim refugee is welcomed and helped with language classes, clothes and food if needed. People whose smiles are stuck on their face because they genuinely love the people who they are helping. Pedro and I are dreaming of us one day being those people who welcome refugees, whether here or in our ministry guest house. Will you welcome the stranger with us? Because some have entertained angels without knowing. It could be our experience and yours.
